How does the Roamify eSIM work?

    1

    Pick the eSIM plan

From unlimited data to fixed data and even plans with calls and hotspots, we have the right plan for you.

    2

    Pay for your order

Chose the plan that suits you best and buy your eSIM card from our website or app. You will receive an email with your QR code.

    3

    Scan the QR code

It's easy. Just scan the QR code we send you and turn on data roaming from your settings. Now you can enjoy it on your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Southeast Asia eSIM

Everything you need to know about the Southeast Asia eSIM.

    01

When does my data plan start?

    +

Your plan starts the moment you activate your eSIM by scanning the QR code on your smartphone.

    02

Can I make phone calls and send messages with the eSIM?

    +

Unfortunately, the Southeast Asia plan only allows you to use mobile data. It does not include a phone number for mobile calls or messages. You can still make calls using apps like WhatsApp.

    03

When will I receive my eSIM?

    +

Once you purchase an eSIM, you will receive it immediately to your email address. You then just need to scan the QR code to activate the SIM. Note that no refunds can be made once you purchase your eSIM. See our refund policy for more information.

    04

Can I keep my WhatsApp number?

    +

You don't need to do anything to keep your WhatsApp number. You'll automatically keep your number, contacts and conversations.

    05

What is the network speed of the eSIM?

    +

The Roamify eSIM offers maximum speed coverage. But bear in mind that in some areas of limited coverage there may be a lower speed connection.

    06

Do I have to activate data roaming on my device?

    +

Yes. To ensure that your eSIM gets the best coverage, you must turn on data roaming on your mobile settings. This will not incur any additional charges, as long as you have already set up the eSIM.

    07

Will my eSIM have a local IP address in Southeast Asia?

    +

Not always. This plan connects through a roaming partner, so websites and apps may see an IP address registered in another country rather than in Southeast Asia. This is normal for travel eSIMs and does not change your data allowance, speed or coverage. If a service requires a local IP address, such as some banking apps or regional streaming catalogues, connect through a local network or use a VPN set to Southeast Asia.

    08

What do I do if I delete or lose my eSIM's QR code?

    +

If you cannot find the code, please contact our 24/7 customer support team at support@getroamify.com or our online chat function. We will resend the code to your email.

    09

What happens if I use up my data or ny days of validity?

    +

If you use all your data or run out of days, your eSIM card will no longer work and you will lose internet connection.

    10

What eSIM data plan should I choose for Southeast Asia?

    +

You can choose variable plans as shown above. You can contact us at any time if you're not sure which plan is best for you.

    11

Will the connection speed be reduced?

    +

This eSIM includes unlimited data for the contracted time. However, please note that the operator may reserve the right to apply a Fair Usage Policy, as it applies to all other network users. In particular, if the operator estimates the usage of more than 90GB of data in a month, it may temporarily reduce the speed to between 256-1024KB to avoid affecting other users. This limitation is intended to prevent network saturation and will be removed within 24 hours. If you think the local operator has limited your speed, please get in touch with us by chat, and we will check if there is any incidence and how to restore your rate to the maximum speed allowed by the network.

    12

Can I renew or extend the data on my eSIM?

    +

Yes, you can do so by logging into your customer panel on the Roamify website. You will find the data plans you can purchase there. Once you've made your purchase, it will be activated immediately on the eSIM you have linked.

    13

Can I share data with other devices?

    +

Yes, you can share data with other devices. You can do this by activating the hotspot on your device.

    14

How do I set up the eSIM on my device?

    +

Once you make your purchase, we will send you an email with precise instructions to install your eSIM in two ways; by scanning the QR code or by copying and pasting the manual installation codes. To install with the first option, it is essential that the QR code is printed or on another device. Otherwise, you can follow the manual installation instructions for your Roamify eSIM. If your device is iOS, you must enter Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM on your device and scan the QR code or paste the manual installation codes sent to your email. You must then follow the on-screen instructions to select your new eSIM for mobile data and calls. If your device is Android, follow the instructions we will email you to install your Roamify eSIM. Remember that your Roamify data plan should only be activated when you arrive at your destination. Once there, make sure to select your Roamify eSIM as your preferred option to make calls, then activate data roaming and also the Roamify calling plan. At Roamify, we want to make setting up your eSIM as easy as possible. For this reason, all our eSIM products come with complete instructions for easy setup. If you have any questions or need help, don't hesitate to contact our customer support team. We will be there for you 24/7.

    15

When should I set up my eSIM?

    +

Set up your eSIM before your departure. Once you reach your destination, just activate the data plan and turn on data roaming. We recommend you print the QR code and take it with you on your vacation just in case. Remember that you need internet access to activate the eSIM. Set up is quick and you will be able to enjoy your data plan right away.

    16

How can I check how much data and minutes do I have left?

    +

To check your remaining data balance, simply log in to our web app using the access details that we sent you via email when you made your purchase. You can also check your data balance in your device's data settings. To check your remaining minutes balance for making or receiving calls, please contact our support team. We're always happy to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

    17

How many times can I use my eSIM card?

    +

Your eSIM can only be activated on one device. If you delete the eSIM from your device, you will not be able to reuse it. You cannot scan the QR code on two devices.

    18

How can I delete the Roamify eSIM once I've used my data?

    +

You don't need to delete the eSIM. But if you want to, please see how to delete eSIM on iOS and Android.

    19

Can I use my (physical) SIM card and Roamify eSIM at the same time?

    +

Sure! You can keep your physical SIM card with your Roamify eSIM simultaneously on your device. Just make sure you choose your eSIM as your default voice line and preferred option for mobile data in your device settings. Please note that if you leave your physical SIM card activated, you might get extra roaming fees from your network provider.

    20

How do I get a refund?

    +

The eSIM is a digital product. Roamify cannot check if you have used the data plan associated with the eSIM card. Therefore, once your eSIM is delivered, we cannot offer a refund. Please see our eSIM Refund Policy for more information.

Navigating Southeast Asia's Bustling Cities and Serene Landscapes

Southeast Asia offers a vibrant mix of bustling cities and serene landscapes, with each region presenting its unique charm. Picture yourself drifting from the bustling streets of Bangkok to the cultural heart of Hanoi, or perhaps journeying through the ancient temples of Siem Reap. Backpackers and travellers often find themselves weaving through a tapestry of countries: Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia are frequently paired together on itineraries, their borders easily crossed. Yet, staying connected across these diverse terrains poses its own set of challenges and opportunities.

Expect strong connectivity in urban hubs like Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, and Singapore, where telecom infrastructure is robust. However, venture into the rural landscapes, dense rainforests, or the more remote islands like those in the Indonesian archipelago, and you'll find connectivity can waver. Mountains, such as those in northern Vietnam or Laos, and vast national parks may also pose challenges for seamless coverage. Cross-border areas can occasionally offer inconsistent service, necessitating a reliable multi-country eSIM plan.

    Before you fly

Before your journey begins, download important travel apps, maps, and entertainment content while you have strong connectivity. An eSIM plan tailored for multiple countries can ensure you're online upon arrival, simplifying border crossings and inter-country travel logistics. Familiarise yourself with local network operators listed in your plan, so you're prepared for any connectivity gaps in rural or remote areas.

Using an eSIM in Southeast Asia

Answers to the questions travellers actually ask about staying connected in Southeast Asia.

    20 questions

How do I activate my travel eSIM when I land at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok?

    +

To activate your travel eSIM upon landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), ensure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi. Open your eSIM app or settings, scan the QR code provided by your eSIM provider, and follow the prompts. Check your phone’s settings to enable the eSIM as your default data plan. If activation fails, try restarting your device after being connected to a local Wi-Fi network.

Does the eSIM provide connectivity on the Langkawi ferry in Malaysia?

    +

While the eSIM should maintain connectivity on the Langkawi ferry, coverage may vary based on the mobile networks available in the area. Reception can be intermittent as you travel between the mainland and Langkawi Island since it depends on your proximity to cellular towers. To ensure a stable connection, plan important online activities when closer to land or in port areas.

What can I do if my eSIM doesn't connect automatically when crossing from Thailand into Cambodia by bus?

    +

If your eSIM doesn’t connect automatically at the Thailand-Cambodia border, ensure data roaming is enabled in your phone’s settings. Manually select a network if the automatic connection fails. Restarting your device can also help establish a connection. If issues persist, contact your eSIM provider for assistance.

Can I use my eSIM to access data while traveling on the Eastern and Oriental Express train?

    +

Yes, you can use your eSIM for data on the Eastern and Oriental Express train, which travels through Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. However, coverage might vary in remote or rural areas where network access is limited. It’s advisable to download necessary content in advance in case of coverage gaps during your journey.

Is there reliable eSIM coverage on the remote islands of Raja Ampat in Indonesia?

    +

Coverage on the remote islands of Raja Ampat can be spotty, as these areas are less populated and have fewer cell towers. While an eSIM can provide connectivity, it’s wise to prepare for limited access, especially outside main villages. Consider downloading maps and important information beforehand for offline use.

    +See all 20 questions

What happens to my data usage when I move from urban Malaysia to rural Laos with a travel eSIM?

    +

Switching from urban Malaysia to rural Laos may affect your data usage experience. Urban areas generally have better coverage and faster speeds. In rural Laos, the connection might be slower or less stable due to fewer cell towers. Monitor your usage to avoid unexpectedly high data consumption in areas with limited bandwidth.

Can I use a travel eSIM for long-distance bus journeys between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City?

    +

Yes, a travel eSIM is suitable for long-distance bus journeys between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. However, bear in mind that coverage can vary, particularly in rural or mountainous regions. For the best experience, download entertainment or maps for offline use, as signal strength may decrease during certain parts of the journey.

Can I tether my laptop to my phone using a travel eSIM in Singapore?

    +

Yes, you can tether your laptop to your phone using a travel eSIM while in Singapore. Ensure tethering is enabled in your phone settings. Singapore's robust network infrastructure typically provides reliable data speeds, making it feasible to use a tethered connection for work or leisure activities.

Why might my eSIM not connect automatically when arriving at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali?

    +

If your eSIM doesn't connect at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), ensure that your device's data roaming is turned on and check for any available network settings updates. Manually selecting a carrier or rebooting your phone might help establish a connection. Confirm that your eSIM plan includes Indonesia as well.

Does a travel eSIM cover the entire railway journey from Bangkok to Singapore?

    +

A travel eSIM can cover the railway journey from Bangkok to Singapore, but network strength may vary along the route, especially in rural areas. Major cities are likely to have better connectivity. It’s advisable to have offline resources ready in case of connectivity issues during the less populated stretches of the trip.

How reliable is eSIM data for streaming music on a ferry from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi?

    +

Streaming music on a ferry from Phuket to Koh Phi Phi using an eSIM can be inconsistent. While areas near the coast might offer good coverage, open waters may present connectivity challenges. Pre-download playlists to ensure uninterrupted listening during the journey, especially in areas where the signal might drop.

Can I use WhatsApp with my travel eSIM while exploring the temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia?

    +

Yes, you can use WhatsApp with your travel eSIM while visiting Angkor Wat. However, the area's dense foliage and ancient structures might affect signal strength. For better connectivity, try using WhatsApp in open spaces or areas with clear line-of-sight to cell towers. Pre-downloading important conversations or media is recommended.

What should I check if my eSIM isn't providing data while traveling in the rural areas of the Golden Triangle?

    +

If your eSIM isn't providing data in the rural areas of the Golden Triangle, first check that your device has data roaming enabled. Coverage might be limited due to the remote geography. Restart your phone and try manually selecting a network. If issues persist, contact your eSIM provider for support.

Will my travel eSIM allow me to make calls while in the Cameron Highlands of Malaysia?

    +

While travel eSIMs typically focus on data, some providers might offer voice call options via VoIP services. In the Cameron Highlands, internet-based calling such as through apps like WhatsApp or Skype can be possible, depending on the eSIM plan and local network coverage. Ensure you have a plan that supports VoIP.

Can a travel eSIM maintain fast internet speeds while island hopping in the Philippines?

    +

A travel eSIM can offer fast internet speeds in more populated islands of the Philippines, but expect reduced speeds in less developed areas. Coverage can vary greatly between islands due to network infrastructure. It’s a good idea to research the specific islands you plan to visit and manage expectations accordingly.

How does network quality differ in Ho Chi Minh City compared to rural Vietnam with a travel eSIM?

    +

In Ho Chi Minh City, you can expect strong network quality with a travel eSIM due to the dense mobile infrastructure. Conversely, in rural Vietnam, the network might be less reliable with slower data speeds and potential coverage gaps. Plan ahead for areas with limited connectivity to ensure smooth travels.

What steps should I follow if my travel eSIM stops working while on Borneo?

    +

If your eSIM stops working on Borneo, first verify that your device's settings have data roaming enabled. Check for signal strength and try manually selecting a network. Restart your phone to resolve temporary issues. If problems persist, contact your eSIM provider for further troubleshooting specific to the area.

Is it possible to use a travel eSIM for video conferencing while in the city of Yangon?

    +

Yes, you can use a travel eSIM for video conferencing in Yangon, as the city offers relatively good network coverage. Ensure your eSIM plan provides sufficient data for high-quality video calls. Connect to a solid network, preferably LTE, for the best experience during video conferencing sessions.

What should I do if my travel eSIM runs out of data while traveling across Southeast Asia?

    +

If your travel eSIM runs out of data, check if your provider offers a top-up option through their app or website. Some plans might allow you to purchase additional data directly. Consider using public Wi-Fi for essential tasks until you can add more data to your plan.

Can a travel eSIM function across multiple countries in Southeast Asia without switching cards?

    +

Yes, a travel eSIM can function across multiple countries in Southeast Asia without physically changing SIM cards, provided your plan covers those regions. This seamless switching allows you to maintain connectivity while crossing borders, making it an excellent option for travelers moving between countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
