How does the Roamify eSIM work?

    1

It's easy. Just scan the QR code we send you and turn on data roaming from your settings. Now you can enjoy it on your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Global eSIM

Everything you need to know about the Global eSIM.

    01

When does my data plan start?

    +

Your plan starts the moment you activate your eSIM by scanning the QR code on your smartphone.

    02

Can I make phone calls and send messages with the eSIM?

    +

Unfortunately, the Global plan only allows you to use mobile data. It does not include a phone number for mobile calls or messages. You can still make calls using apps like WhatsApp.

    03

When will I receive my eSIM?

    +

Once you purchase an eSIM, you will receive it immediately to your email address. You then just need to scan the QR code to activate the SIM. Note that no refunds can be made once you purchase your eSIM. See our refund policy for more information.

    04

Can I keep my WhatsApp number?

    +

You don't need to do anything to keep your WhatsApp number. You'll automatically keep your number, contacts and conversations.

    05

What is the network speed of the eSIM?

    +

The Roamify eSIM offers maximum speed coverage. But bear in mind that in some areas of limited coverage there may be a lower speed connection.

    06

Do I have to activate data roaming on my device?

    +

Yes. To ensure that your eSIM gets the best coverage, you must turn on data roaming on your mobile settings. This will not incur any additional charges, as long as you have already set up the eSIM.

    07

Will my eSIM have a local IP address in Global?

    +

Not always. This plan connects through a roaming partner, so websites and apps may see an IP address registered in another country rather than in Global. This is normal for travel eSIMs and does not change your data allowance, speed or coverage. If a service requires a local IP address, such as some banking apps or regional streaming catalogues, connect through a local network or use a VPN set to Global.

    08

What do I do if I delete or lose my eSIM's QR code?

    +

If you cannot find the code, please contact our 24/7 customer support team at support@getroamify.com or our online chat function. We will resend the code to your email.

    09

What happens if I use up my data or ny days of validity?

    +

If you use all your data or run out of days, your eSIM card will no longer work and you will lose internet connection.

    10

What eSIM data plan should I choose for Global?

    +

You can choose variable plans as shown above. You can contact us at any time if you're not sure which plan is best for you.

    11

Can I renew or extend the data on my eSIM?

    +

Yes, you can do so by logging into your customer panel on the Roamify website. You will find the data plans you can purchase there. Once you've made your purchase, it will be activated immediately on the eSIM you have linked.

    12

Can I share data with other devices?

    +

Yes, you can share data with other devices. You can do this by activating the hotspot on your device.

    13

How do I set up the eSIM on my device?

    +

Once you make your purchase, we will send you an email with precise instructions to install your eSIM in two ways; by scanning the QR code or by copying and pasting the manual installation codes. To install with the first option, it is essential that the QR code is printed or on another device. Otherwise, you can follow the manual installation instructions for your Roamify eSIM. If your device is iOS, you must enter Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM on your device and scan the QR code or paste the manual installation codes sent to your email. You must then follow the on-screen instructions to select your new eSIM for mobile data and calls. If your device is Android, follow the instructions we will email you to install your Roamify eSIM. Remember that your Roamify data plan should only be activated when you arrive at your destination. Once there, make sure to select your Roamify eSIM as your preferred option to make calls, then activate data roaming and also the Roamify calling plan. At Roamify, we want to make setting up your eSIM as easy as possible. For this reason, all our eSIM products come with complete instructions for easy setup. If you have any questions or need help, don't hesitate to contact our customer support team. We will be there for you 24/7.

    14

When should I set up my eSIM?

    +

Set up your eSIM before your departure. Once you reach your destination, just activate the data plan and turn on data roaming. We recommend you print the QR code and take it with you on your vacation just in case. Remember that you need internet access to activate the eSIM. Set up is quick and you will be able to enjoy your data plan right away.

    15

How can I check how much data and minutes do I have left?

    +

To check your remaining data balance, simply log in to our web app using the access details that we sent you via email when you made your purchase. You can also check your data balance in your device's data settings. To check your remaining minutes balance for making or receiving calls, please contact our support team. We're always happy to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

    16

How many times can I use my eSIM card?

    +

Your eSIM can only be activated on one device. If you delete the eSIM from your device, you will not be able to reuse it. You cannot scan the QR code on two devices.

    17

How can I delete the Roamify eSIM once I've used my data?

    +

You don't need to delete the eSIM. But if you want to, please see how to delete eSIM on iOS and Android.

    18

Can I use my (physical) SIM card and Roamify eSIM at the same time?

    +

Sure! You can keep your physical SIM card with your Roamify eSIM simultaneously on your device. Just make sure you choose your eSIM as your default voice line and preferred option for mobile data in your device settings. Please note that if you leave your physical SIM card activated, you might get extra roaming fees from your network provider.

    19

How do I get a refund?

    +

The eSIM is a digital product. Roamify cannot check if you have used the data plan associated with the eSIM card. Therefore, once your eSIM is delivered, we cannot offer a refund. Please see our eSIM Refund Policy for more information.

Roaming the Continents: A Global Connectivity Journey

Embark on a journey across the globe, where each continent offers its unique landscapes and challenges. From the bustling streets of New York, the cultural tapestry of Istanbul, to the vibrant life of Tokyo, a multi-country eSIM plan keeps you connected as you navigate these diverse urban landscapes. Imagine traversing the Canadian Rockies, or experiencing the vast expanses of the Australian Outback; this plan accompanies you as your surroundings shift from dense cityscapes to remote wilderness. Each transition between countries is seamless, allowing you to focus on the adventure ahead.

While connectivity is robust in major cities like London, São Paulo, and Singapore, you may encounter patchy coverage in more remote areas. Mountainous regions such as the Andes and the Himalayas or vast deserts like the Sahara can challenge network availability. Island hopping in the Pacific or navigating the dense forests of the Amazon may result in brief connectivity lulls. Rail journeys across long stretches of countryside and coastal drives can also present spots where signals waver.

    Before you fly

Before setting off, ensure your devices are set up with a reliable travel eSIM plan. Download essential apps, maps, and media while you have strong connections, especially before entering regions known for sparse network reach. Upon arrival in a new country, your device should automatically connect to available networks, ensuring a smooth transition as you step off the plane and begin your next leg of exploration.

    Using an eSIM in Global

Answers to the questions travellers actually ask about staying connected in Global.

    20 questions

Will my eSIM work while traveling by train across Europe, including the Eurostar from London to Paris?

    +

Yes, your eSIM should work on most major train routes across Europe, including the Eurostar. However, coverage might vary slightly when the train passes through tunnels or rural areas. Ensure your device is set to automatic network selection to switch between available carriers as you cross country borders.

How can I ensure my eSIM remains active when crossing borders between Argentina and Chile in the Andes?

    +

To keep your eSIM active while crossing from Argentina to Chile in the Andes, check that data roaming is enabled on your device. The eSIM should automatically switch to a compatible local network upon entering Chile. If it does not, manually search for available networks in your settings.

Will my eSIM provide coverage during a rail journey across the Trans-Siberian Express in Russia?

    +

Your eSIM is likely to provide good coverage in urban areas like Moscow and Vladivostok. However, expect patchy service in rural and remote areas along the Trans-Siberian route. Plan ahead if you require constant connectivity, as network availability can be limited in the Siberian wilderness.

Can I activate my eSIM at Changi Airport (SIN) in Singapore before boarding a flight to Australia?

    +

Yes, you can activate your eSIM at Changi Airport. The airport provides excellent Wi-Fi connectivity, which is essential for completing the eSIM activation process. Find a quiet area, such as the seating zones near departure gates T1 through T4, to ensure stable internet access. This allows you to complete activation seamlessly before your flight. Upon landing in Australia, your eSIM will be ready for immediate use, enabling uninterrupted connectivity for navigation and communication.

Does the eSIM provide coverage on ferry rides between the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea?

    +

Coverage while ferrying between Greek islands can vary. Larger islands like Santorini and Mykonos offer robust network coverage, supported by nearby cell towers. However, signal strength often diminishes in open water, leading to potential connectivity issues. Before embarking on long ferry rides, download essential maps, offline guides, and any required travel documents to ensure access even with fluctuating network availability during your journey.

    +See all 20 questions

What happens if I run out of data while hiking in the Swiss Alps?

    +

You can typically top up your eSIM data via your provider's app, even in the Swiss Alps. However, connection might be spotty in more isolated regions like Zermatt or Grindelwald. It's wise to check your data balance and complete any necessary top-ups before starting your hike. Download offline maps and limit background data usage to ensure you have sufficient connectivity for emergency communication and navigation when needed.

How can I use my eSIM for hotspot tethering while attending a conference in Hong Kong?

    +

Enable the mobile hotspot feature on your device to use your eSIM for hotspot tethering in Hong Kong. This city boasts excellent mobile infrastructure, particularly in areas like Central and Kowloon, ensuring strong and consistent network support. Before the conference, confirm with your provider that your data plan includes tethering capabilities. This preparation ensures you can share your internet connection reliably with other devices throughout the event.

Is there eSIM coverage on the Tokyo-Yokohama rail route?

    +

Yes, the rail route between Tokyo and Yokohama has excellent eSIM coverage. Major network providers cover this corridor extensively, ensuring consistent connectivity. As you travel via train, you'll experience minimal service interruptions, even in densely populated areas like Kawasaki. To maximize this benefit, keep your phone settings adjusted to automatically select networks, ensuring your device maintains optimal signal strength throughout the journey.

Why does my eSIM connection drop when traveling between Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok via train?

    +

Connection drops can result from network changes when crossing from Malaysia to Thailand. The transition can momentarily affect your connection, especially as you pass through rural areas. Ensure your device is set to automatically select networks and check that your roaming settings are enabled. As you enter Thailand, manually selecting a local network might stabilize your connection if automatic switching doesn’t resolve the issue promptly.

How do I troubleshoot my eSIM if it fails to connect at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)?

    +

If your eSIM fails to connect at LAX, restart your device and check if airplane mode is disabled. Ensure your eSIM is active and set as the primary data connection. If issues continue, connect to airport Wi-Fi and consult your provider’s app for further assistance.

Can I use my eSIM to maintain WhatsApp connectivity while island hopping in the Caribbean?

    +

Yes, your eSIM can maintain WhatsApp connectivity across Caribbean islands. Coverage on major islands like Jamaica and the Bahamas is generally robust, provided by local cell towers. However, remote and less populated areas might suffer weaker signals. Prepare by pre-downloading important messages or media and plan your communication accordingly. This approach ensures you stay in touch without being entirely reliant on real-time data.

Are there any network challenges using an eSIM between New Zealand's North and South Islands?

    +

While traveling between New Zealand's North and South Islands, you might experience brief network outages in open waters during ferry transfers. However, both islands boast solid overall coverage once you reach shore. Network stability is strong in cities like Auckland and Christchurch. Enable roaming on your device to facilitate seamless network transitions, ensuring you maintain connectivity as you travel between these diverse regions.

What should I do if my eSIM stops working while crossing the US-Canada border by car?

    +

If your eSIM stops working when crossing from the US into Canada, confirm that data roaming is activated. Network switching might take a few moments due to the border transition. Check your device’s network settings and manually select a Canadian network if necessary. Should problems persist, restart your device to reset the connection, allowing your eSIM to re-establish connectivity with available local networks.

How does eSIM data usage compare when traveling through densely populated cities like Shanghai versus rural China?

    +

Expect higher data usage in cities like Shanghai due to constant app updates, streaming, and navigation services, sustained by strong urban networks. In contrast, rural areas in China might see reduced data consumption due to limited service availability and fewer background updates. Monitor your usage to adjust consumption patterns and settings as needed, helping you better manage your data plan and avoid unexpected overages.

Is it possible to use a dual SIM setup with my eSIM while visiting multiple countries in South America?

    +

Yes, a dual SIM setup can be greatly beneficial while traveling in South America. Your eSIM can provide data coverage continuity across multiple countries, while a local physical SIM can handle country-specific calls. This is particularly useful in expansive regions like Brazil or Argentina where local providers might offer better call rates or promotions. Ensure your device supports dual SIM functionality to fully leverage this flexible travel solution.

Why might my eSIM experience slower data speeds while traveling across the Australian Outback?

    +

The Australian Outback poses challenges due to limited infrastructure and vast distances. These factors can affect eSIM data speeds and signal strength. Opting for offline maps and pre-downloading essential content can help alleviate reliance on spotty connections. Plan travel routes with known cell tower locations in mind where possible, and adjust your data usage expectations for improved communication in this remote, wide-open terrain.

How do I manage eSIM data usage when crossing from Switzerland into Italy on a hiking trip?

    +

To manage eSIM data along your hike from Switzerland to Italy, disable automatic updates and limit background data use. Networks are generally reliable between these regions, particularly in areas like Lugano and Como. Prepare by downloading maps and any important information offline beforehand. This approach not only conserves data but also ensures continuity in navigation and communication as you enjoy your cross-border hiking adventure.

Can I rely on my eSIM for continuous service while sailing through the fjords of Norway?

    +

eSIM coverage while sailing in Norway's fjords can be inconsistent. Coastal cities like Bergen offer reliable service, but deeper fjords might experience diminished reception. To prepare, download necessary maps, navigation tools, and travel content in advance. This proactive approach ensures you maintain access to vital resources, minimizing disruptions in connectivity while enjoying the scenic voyage through Norway's stunning water channels.

How does network quality differ on a road trip across the US-Mexico border through Texas?

    +

Network quality on the US-Mexico border through Texas can fluctuate. Urban areas such as El Paso and Ciudad Juárez enjoy strong and stable connections. However, rural sections between these cities might have limited coverage. Enable your device’s roaming settings to allow it to automatically adjust to the changing networks. This ensures a smoother transition and maintains service continuity as you travel through varying terrains and border zones.

What should I do if my eSIM doesn't activate upon arrival at Dubai International Airport (DXB)?

    +

If your eSIM fails to activate at DXB, connect to the airport's Wi-Fi to check activation status through your service provider’s app. Ensure airplane mode is disabled and restart your device to clear any connectivity issues. Should the problem persist, contacting customer support is advisable for guidance on manual activation or troubleshooting. This approach ensures you get connected promptly, supporting a smooth start to your stay in Dubai.
