How does the Roamify eSIM work?

    1

    Pick the eSIM plan

From unlimited data to fixed data and even plans with calls and hotspots, we have the right plan for you.

    2

    Pay for your order

Chose the plan that suits you best and buy your eSIM card from our website or app. You will receive an email with your QR code.

    3

    Scan the QR code

It's easy. Just scan the QR code we send you and turn on data roaming from your settings. Now you can enjoy it on your trip.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Asia eSIM

Everything you need to know about the Asia eSIM.

    01

When does my data plan start?

    +

Your plan starts the moment you activate your eSIM by scanning the QR code on your smartphone.

    02

Can I make phone calls and send messages with the eSIM?

    +

Unfortunately, the Asia plan only allows you to use mobile data. It does not include a phone number for mobile calls or messages. You can still make calls using apps like WhatsApp.

    03

When will I receive my eSIM?

    +

Once you purchase an eSIM, you will receive it immediately to your email address. You then just need to scan the QR code to activate the SIM. Note that no refunds can be made once you purchase your eSIM. See our refund policy for more information.

    04

Can I keep my WhatsApp number?

    +

You don't need to do anything to keep your WhatsApp number. You'll automatically keep your number, contacts and conversations.

    05

What is the network speed of the eSIM?

    +

The Roamify eSIM offers maximum speed coverage. But bear in mind that in some areas of limited coverage there may be a lower speed connection.

    06

Do I have to activate data roaming on my device?

    +

Yes. To ensure that your eSIM gets the best coverage, you must turn on data roaming on your mobile settings. This will not incur any additional charges, as long as you have already set up the eSIM.

    07

Will my eSIM have a local IP address in Asia?

    +

Not always. This plan connects through a roaming partner, so websites and apps may see an IP address registered in another country rather than in Asia. This is normal for travel eSIMs and does not change your data allowance, speed or coverage. If a service requires a local IP address, such as some banking apps or regional streaming catalogues, connect through a local network or use a VPN set to Asia.

    08

What do I do if I delete or lose my eSIM's QR code?

    +

If you cannot find the code, please contact our 24/7 customer support team at support@getroamify.com or our online chat function. We will resend the code to your email.

    09

What happens if I use up my data or ny days of validity?

    +

If you use all your data or run out of days, your eSIM card will no longer work and you will lose internet connection.

    10

What eSIM data plan should I choose for Asia?

    +

You can choose variable plans as shown above. You can contact us at any time if you're not sure which plan is best for you.

    11

Will the connection speed be reduced?

    +

This eSIM includes unlimited data for the contracted time. However, please note that the operator may reserve the right to apply a Fair Usage Policy, as it applies to all other network users. In particular, if the operator estimates the usage of more than 90GB of data in a month, it may temporarily reduce the speed to between 256-1024KB to avoid affecting other users. This limitation is intended to prevent network saturation and will be removed within 24 hours. If you think the local operator has limited your speed, please get in touch with us by chat, and we will check if there is any incidence and how to restore your rate to the maximum speed allowed by the network.

    12

Can I renew or extend the data on my eSIM?

    +

Yes, you can do so by logging into your customer panel on the Roamify website. You will find the data plans you can purchase there. Once you've made your purchase, it will be activated immediately on the eSIM you have linked.

    13

Can I share data with other devices?

    +

Yes, you can share data with other devices. You can do this by activating the hotspot on your device.

    14

How do I set up the eSIM on my device?

    +

Once you make your purchase, we will send you an email with precise instructions to install your eSIM in two ways; by scanning the QR code or by copying and pasting the manual installation codes. To install with the first option, it is essential that the QR code is printed or on another device. Otherwise, you can follow the manual installation instructions for your Roamify eSIM. If your device is iOS, you must enter Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM on your device and scan the QR code or paste the manual installation codes sent to your email. You must then follow the on-screen instructions to select your new eSIM for mobile data and calls. If your device is Android, follow the instructions we will email you to install your Roamify eSIM. Remember that your Roamify data plan should only be activated when you arrive at your destination. Once there, make sure to select your Roamify eSIM as your preferred option to make calls, then activate data roaming and also the Roamify calling plan. At Roamify, we want to make setting up your eSIM as easy as possible. For this reason, all our eSIM products come with complete instructions for easy setup. If you have any questions or need help, don't hesitate to contact our customer support team. We will be there for you 24/7.

    15

When should I set up my eSIM?

    +

Set up your eSIM before your departure. Once you reach your destination, just activate the data plan and turn on data roaming. We recommend you print the QR code and take it with you on your vacation just in case. Remember that you need internet access to activate the eSIM. Set up is quick and you will be able to enjoy your data plan right away.

    16

How can I check how much data and minutes do I have left?

    +

To check your remaining data balance, simply log in to our web app using the access details that we sent you via email when you made your purchase. You can also check your data balance in your device's data settings. To check your remaining minutes balance for making or receiving calls, please contact our support team. We're always happy to assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

    17

How many times can I use my eSIM card?

    +

Your eSIM can only be activated on one device. If you delete the eSIM from your device, you will not be able to reuse it. You cannot scan the QR code on two devices.

    18

How can I delete the Roamify eSIM once I've used my data?

    +

You don't need to delete the eSIM. But if you want to, please see how to delete eSIM on iOS and Android.

    19

Can I use my (physical) SIM card and Roamify eSIM at the same time?

    +

Sure! You can keep your physical SIM card with your Roamify eSIM simultaneously on your device. Just make sure you choose your eSIM as your default voice line and preferred option for mobile data in your device settings. Please note that if you leave your physical SIM card activated, you might get extra roaming fees from your network provider.

    20

How do I get a refund?

    +

The eSIM is a digital product. Roamify cannot check if you have used the data plan associated with the eSIM card. Therefore, once your eSIM is delivered, we cannot offer a refund. Please see our eSIM Refund Policy for more information.

    Connectivity Across Asia's Dynamic Landscapes

Traversing Asia often means moving from the bustling streets of Tokyo to the historic avenues of Beijing, or hopping from the vibrant markets of Bangkok to the serene temples of Kyoto. This region is a patchwork of striking contrasts, where ancient traditions meet cutting-edge technology. Whether you're journeying through the dense urban jungles of Jakarta or the serene beaches of Bali, staying connected is essential. A typical trip might take you across sprawling cities, scenic rural areas, and into countries with distinct cultures and languages.

Connectivity in Asia is a mixed bag; major cities like Singapore, Seoul, and Hong Kong boast excellent coverage and fast connections, thanks to their advanced infrastructure. However, when your journey takes you to the remote mountains of Nepal, the islands of the Philippines, or the expansive deserts of Mongolia, connectivity can become sparse. Long train journeys, rural villages, and border regions often have patchy reception, requiring some planning ahead.

    Before you fly

Preparing for an Asian adventure means ensuring your eSIM is set up before you land. Download maps, translation apps, and any essential documents while you have reliable Wi-Fi. On arrival, expect seamless connectivity in metropolitan areas, but be prepared for slower speeds or intermittent service when venturing off the beaten path. Adjust settings for automatic network switching, and keep an eye on your connection as you cross borders to ensure you're always in touch.

    Using an eSIM in Asia

Answers to the questions travellers actually ask about staying connected in Asia.

    20 questions

How do I activate my eSIM for use when landing at Changi Airport in Singapore?

    +

To activate your eSIM at Changi Airport (SIN), ensure your device is connected to airport Wi-Fi. Download and install the eSIM profile before arrival, if possible. Once landed, switch on your device, and your eSIM should automatically connect to a local network. If it doesn't, check your phone’s settings to manually select a network.

Can I use my eSIM on the Tokyo to Osaka Shinkansen route?

    +

Yes, your eSIM will function on the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka. This bullet train route benefits from Japan's robust mobile network infrastructure, maintaining connectivity even at high speeds. However, tunnels such as those near Mount Fuji might cause brief signal interruptions. To ensure continued access, download offline maps or any essential documents before entering these areas.

Is there mobile coverage on the Trans-Mongolian Railway?

    +

Coverage on the Trans-Mongolian Railway is inconsistent. In cities like Ulaanbaatar, strong networks exist, but vast stretches through the Gobi Desert see limited signals. Most notably in rural Mongolia, connectivity challenges are frequent. Travelers should plan communications around these gaps by notifying contacts in advance or using offline messaging services during transit through less connected areas.

Will my eSIM work seamlessly when crossing the Friendship Bridge from Thailand to Laos?

    +

Your eSIM should seamlessly transition to a local network when crossing from Thailand to Laos if your plan includes multi-country support. Infrastructure in places like Vientiane and Nong Khai supports this switch. If automatic reconnection fails, restart your device and ensure network settings include both countries. Confirm each country’s inclusion with your provider before traveling.

What should I do if my eSIM doesn’t connect upon landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport?

    +

If your eSIM fails to connect at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, verify the device settings first. Ensure airplane mode is off and mobile data is on. If connection issues persist, manually choose a local network in settings. The airport also has Wi-Fi, which can be a short-term alternative for checking eSIM provider details or contacting support.

    +See all 20 questions

How can I check my data usage while traveling between Hong Kong and Macau?

    +

To monitor data usage while moving between Hong Kong and Macau, use your eSIM’s app, which often provides real-time data tracking. Both regions have distinct network zones, so checking consumption helps avoid overage. If the app is unavailable, utilize your phone's settings to monitor data. For seamless transitions, verify data roaming is active between these locations.

Does an eSIM support tethering while exploring Bali’s coastal areas?

    +

Yes, eSIMs commonly support tethering along Bali’s coastlines. Enjoy sharing your internet connection in locales like Seminyak or Ubud. However, some plans may limit tethering, so confirm this feature with your provider. Coverage is generally strong in tourist regions but can diminish near less developed beaches, so plan your connectivity needs accordingly.

Is mobile coverage available on the Hakone Tozan line in Japan?

    +

The Hakone Tozan line offers decent mobile coverage, supported by Japan’s extensive network infrastructure. However, as it travels through mountainous areas and tunnels, connectivity can be sporadic. Notable interruptions occur near Miyanoshita. Plan to complete online tasks beforehand, or download necessary content to mitigate any data access problems during this scenic train journey.

How reliable is eSIM connectivity on Malaysia’s East Coast islands?

    +

eSIM connectivity on Malaysia’s East Coast islands varies. Langkawi and Penang provide strong signals, bolstered by tourism-driven infrastructure. However, more remote islands like Tioman may have weaker connections due to fewer cell towers. It's advisable to check coverage with your provider before visiting these areas to ensure you're prepared for varying signal strengths.

Will I incur extra charges using my eSIM on a ferry from South Korea to Japan?

    +

Using your eSIM on a ferry from South Korea to Japan might incur roaming fees, especially when in international waters. Ensure your eSIM plan covers both countries seamlessly to avoid unexpected costs. Before embarking, consult your provider's terms regarding maritime usage. For data conservation, download necessary content prior to departure or use offline modes when possible.

Can I access local data plans using an eSIM in rural regions of Vietnam?

    +

Yes, eSIM plans are available for rural Vietnam, though coverage fluctuates. Cities like Hanoi offer reliable signals, but regions such as the Mekong Delta might see reduced connectivity. Prioritize providers with extensive rural network assurances when choosing plans. Download maps and vital apps in advance to navigate areas with limited signal availability.

What should I do if I run out of eSIM data while traveling across the Great Wall of China?

    +

Running out of data while at the Great Wall means utilizing alternative solutions. Purchase additional data through your eSIM app or use Wi-Fi at visitor centers in regions like Badaling. To maintain connectivity, download apps or use offline maps and guides beforehand to ensure you can make the most of your visit without disruption.

Does an eSIM support WhatsApp while traveling through the Himalayas in Nepal?

    +

An eSIM supports using WhatsApp in Nepal, but expect limited connectivity in remote Himalayan regions like Everest Base Camp. While areas like Kathmandu have robust service, coverage diminishes with elevation. Consider downloading critical information and maintaining communication through established Wi-Fi locations to ensure reliable contact during your Himalayan travels.

How stable is eSIM data speed on a cross-country train trip in India?

    +

eSIM data speed on Indian trains varies widely. Metropolises like Delhi and Mumbai boast reliable connections, but countryside travels, particularly through the Deccan Plateau, see inconsistencies. Plan essential online activities during stops in major cities or download content ahead. Awareness of these variations allows for better data management and reduced frustration.

Can I use my eSIM to make calls while island hopping in the Philippines?

    +

eSIMs generally support VoIP for calls in the Philippines, but traditional calls hinge on provider capabilities. Islands like Luzon or Cebu have robust networks due to dense populations, yet smaller islands may present challenges. Confirm call function with your provider beforehand. To ensure uninterrupted communication, rely on internet-based calling apps if necessary.

Why does my eSIM signal drop when traveling from Shanghai to Suzhou by train?

    +

Signal drops on the train from Shanghai to Suzhou often occur because of tunnels or rural stretches like those between Kunshan and Suzhou Industrial Park. While the line boasts extensive coverage, temporary signal loss is anticipated. Restart your device or reconnect manually if issues continue after brief outages to regain network access swiftly.

What are the advantages of using an eSIM while backpacking across Southeast Asia?

    +

Using an eSIM backpacking through Southeast Asia enhances travel flexibility, eliminating the need for physical SIM cards. Manage multiple countries' data plans directly from your device, simplifying transitions between nations such as Thailand and Vietnam. Avoid the hassle of locating SIM vendors in each country and maintain seamless connectivity with locally optimized plans.

How do I troubleshoot eSIM network issues while traveling on Taiwan’s High-Speed Rail?

    +

When facing eSIM network challenges on Taiwan’s High-Speed Rail, ensure your eSIM profile is active and airplane mode is off. This line, linking Taipei to Kaohsiung, generally offers strong service. If issues persist, restart your device and manually select a network. Consider downloading entertainment or work materials in advance for uninterrupted access.

Can I switch between multiple eSIM profiles when crossing borders in Asia?

    +

Yes, switching between eSIM profiles while crossing Asian borders is straightforward on most compatible smartphones. This feature is valuable for optimizing connectivity when entering countries like Malaysia or Singapore. Manage different plans from one device, easily changing according to network availability, ensuring cost efficiency and seamless transitions across various networks.

What should I know about eSIM network quality while traveling the Silk Road in Central Asia?

    +

eSIM connectivity on the Silk Road in Central Asia can be unpredictable. Cities like Tashkent and Bukhara offer reliable signals, enhanced by urban infrastructure, but vast rural stretches and deserts may pose challenges. Before your journey, consult coverage maps from your provider to anticipate weak spots and download essential resources for offline use.
